Sony pushes innovation and the digital experience. This innovation effort resulted in a number of new, futuristic products such as the HMZ head-mounted display. The product generated a lot of buzz and at the time was labeled as a serious competitor to the revolutionary Oculus Rift.
Selling the value of such a unique product required a web experience that would match the product's real-world product design. As the device is a video display, the creative team wanted to utilize some sort of video or motion sequence.
Sony's new site was built for modern browsers, and Sony wanted the showcase module experience to translate across desktop and mobile devices.
The technique was a hybrid of static image sequences that could be toggled on and off in rapid succession, simulating motion. Then, those sequences then tied together with video clips for the transitions.
The interactive integrity was maintained across all devices and screen sizes, and the module gracefully degraded for older browsers.
