Challenge
Twitter asked us to design and build a modern experience for Flight, their upcoming annual developer conference.
The previous year the developer community (their core audience) heavily-criticized how the conference website was built.
In addition to all the functionality they needed, they wanted the site to win over their target demographic.
Features
The team came to us with an initial set of requirements and we helped flesh them out - most notable are:
Registration
Twitter asked us for recommendations; Eventbrite was a leader in the space at that time, and they happened to be one of our clients, so we knew their platform well. They wanted to be able to track registration stats in realtime, offer discount codes / free entries, and integrate all their data with their CRM.
CRM
Twitter used Eloqua for email and needed us to tie into their system. Additionally they were integrating everything into Salesforce and wanted help with that.
Agenda/Timeline
The event programming team needed an agenda with multiple tracks, and their speaker lineup wasn't firmed up yet so they needed to be flexible on speaker names / profiles and presentation lengths. We designed a custom implementation for them that worked perfectly.
"Cool Factor"
Twitter really needed to earn the respect of their target attendees. We built the system with modern tech stacks and designed it to be responsive, both very hot topics at that time.
Additionally we wanted something to be really visually impactful; for this we opted to use WebGL. We built the site header using three.js, adding mouse interactivity and a bunch of other details.
Result
The dev community was impressed and Twitter had their largest conference turnout ever.
